The following bugs are fixed in version 2.2.2 of BBEdit, dated April 7, 1993.
- BBEdit 2.2.2 includes an updated version of Aladdin Systems’
internal resource compression. This solves several problems
which were traced to the resource compression, specifically
crashes when waking up on some PowerBook models and unstable
behavior in some situations on systems with MacTCP installed.
- BBEdit 2.2.2 works around a bug in System 6’s MultiFinder
memory manager which would cause junk to be appended to the
end of a text file when it was opened. (The junk was not
saved to the file on disk.)
- When double-clicking on text documents to launch BBEdit under
System 6, with the XTND translation package installed, the
selected documents would be opened into untitled editing
windows.
- When doing a Replace All and no action was taken (i.e. no
occurrences were found), the front editing window would
malfunction.
- In some situations, white blotches would appear in the
front editing window when dismissing the “Find” dialog.
- Searching backwards for a one-letter word, with “Entire
Word” checked, would cause BBEdit to hang.
- In the Grep Patterns section of the Preferences dialog,
clicking on the list of patterns would have no effect.
- When the Caps Lock key was depressed, the option- and
shift-key shortcuts for various menu items would not
function.
- BBEdit now gives up CPU time when idling in the background
under MultiFinder or System 7.
- The “Import” and “Export” commands previously used BBEdit’s
partition for translation, which limited the size of documents
that could be imported or exported. BBEdit now uses MultiFinder
memory for translation, so larger documents can now be imported
or exported (subject to available system memory).
The following bugs are fixed in version 2.2.1 of BBEdit, dated January 16, 1993.
- When doing a multi-file search of an entire disk with “Search All
Types”, BBEdit would repeatedly report “File Not Found” errors
during the course of the search.
- The “Export...” command would generate invalid MacWrite
5.0 files.
- If the status bar was turned off, but “Show Cursor Position”
was turned on, the cursor position display wouldn’t be drawn.
- Files with the creator “R*ch” but no saved state information
would grow resource forks when subsequently opened and then saved.
- In some conditions, pieces of numbers in the line number bar
would be left behind when scrolling the text.
- At random, the machine would lock up while launching ToolServer.
- BBEdit would occasionally fail to correctly remembered the
positions of windows after an Arrange... command.
- After doing a Zap Gremlins with “Filter Line Feeds” and
“Replace With”, BBEdit would occasionally crash or behave
strangely.
- Certain legitimate operations by extensions would cause BBEdit
to crash or exhibit cosmetic glitches.
- When doing a Find & Replace All Matches with “Save To Disk”
selected and “Confirm Saves” turned _off_, BBEdit would
crash or behave strangely if an editing window was open
during the process.
- An open window affected by a Find & Replace All Matches is now
correctly saved and updated.
- Fixed bug in Open Several... dialog in which double-clicking
a folder alias added the folder alias to the file list, rather
than opening it.
- Caps Lock no longer serves as an on-the-fly toggle for Synchro
Scrolling; this makes it easier to use BBEdit with the Caps Lock
key down most of the time.
- Trying to print the Compare Results window would cause BBEdit
to crash.
- Cancelling a print job in progress would cause BBEdit to crash.
- If a file being compared is modified, it will not be marked
read-only. This avoids the situation of having a dirty read-only
file; when such a file is closed, no warning is given.
- The Num Lock LED is no longer used to indicate the mode of the
numeric keypad. This feature caused spurious crashes and
compatibility problems on machines running System 7.1 and
using the _original_ Apple Extended Keyboard.
